What is eyelid surgery?
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, removes or repositions excess skin, muscle and fat around the eyes. It treats heavy, droopy upper lids and puffy bags under the eyes, which can make you look tired and, on the upper lid, can even block your side vision.
It is often the first surgery people need as the face ages, and it can be combined with laser resurfacing or a facelift. For lower lids, Dr. Fisher also performs fat transposition, which moves fat into the hollow under the eye for a smoother, more youthful result instead of only removing it.

For bagginess alone, lower lid fat can be treated without a visible scar. Fine crepey lines on the lower lid can be treated with laser resurfacing, often at the same time.

What is blepharoplasty?
The medical name for eyelid surgery. It removes or repositions excess skin, muscle and fat from the upper lids, lower lids or both.
Who is a good candidate?
Adults with droopy upper lids, excess lid skin, or puffy bags under the eyes, especially if upper lid skin affects their vision. Dr. Fisher decides candidacy at consultation.
Will I have a scar?
Upper lid incisions sit in your natural lid crease. For lower lid bags alone, fat can be treated from inside the lid with no visible scar. If skin needs removing, the incision is hidden just below the lash line.
Do I need general anesthesia?
No. Upper and lower eyelid surgery do not require general anesthesia.
What is lower lid fat transposition?
Instead of only removing fat, the surgeon moves it into the hollow below the eye for a smoother, more youthful lower lid. Dr. Fisher performs this technique.
Is eyelid surgery the same as a brow lift?
No. A heavy brow can make the upper lids look saggy too. Some patients need a brow lift, some need eyelid surgery and some need both. Dr. Fisher checks for this at consultation.
